Man gets house arrest for explosives

United States District Judge Richard P. Conaboy sentenced Kunkletown resident Ronald J. Scheu, 48, to eight months of home confinement for distributing explosives without a license.

U.S. Attorney Bruce D. Brandler said that Scheu pleaded guilty to distributing 119 M-class devices, 26 class 1.3 mortars, and one aerial shell without the appropriate license or permit.Scheu told the court that he owned a storage locker that contained hundreds of pounds of explosives, sold professional explosives, and manufactured flash powder and explosives at his home.The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Carbon County District Attorney's office carried out the investigation, with U.S. Attorney Phillip J Caraballo prosecuting the case.Scheu's sentence will also include three years of probation and a $1,000 fine.
