Panther Valley board president steps down

The Panther Valley school board has a new president and vice president, after the current president stepped down but will remain on the board as a regular member.

The board is also looking to fill the seat of board member Brian Dolena, who also resigned.They voted Wayne V. Gryzik, of Summit Hill, into the president’s position at a meeting Wednesday night.Gryzik has served on the board for one year.Anthony DeMarco, who became president last January, said in a letter he no longer has the time to serve in the position, however he will remain on the board.He did not attend the meeting, but submitted a letter of resignation to the board.“I just don t have the time to be at committee meetings which are starting at 5 p.m. or the upcoming teachers contract negotiations,” DeMarco said in a letter.DeMarco’s term runs through 2019.Superintendent Dennis Kergick thanked DeMarco for serving as the board’s leader.“It’s a demanding and sometimes grueling job to work in any kind of leadership capacity in this school district or any one,” he said. “I do want to say thank you to Tony for effort and hard work.”The board is also looking to replace Dolena, whose resignation they accepted Wednesday night.Dolena was appointed to the board in 2013, and won an election for the seat later that year. He was appointed vice president last year.Board member Keith Krapf of Coaldale was voted to replace him as vice president.The board has 30 days from Wednesday night’s meeting to fill Dolena’s seat on the board.The person who takes his seat will have to run for re-election this fall.Letters of interest will be accepted at the school’s administrative offices until 1 p.m. on March 3.Applicants will be interviewed before the board’s March 9 meeting.Kergick thanked Dolena for his service to the board.“His work commitments and a change of occupation have limited his capacity to serve, and I know I speak for the entire board in sending our gratitude to both Mr. DeMarco and Mr. Dolena,” Kergick said.
