Maurice and Beverly Kunkel said "I do" 66 years ago at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in White Haven.

In the ensuing years they'd welcome two children, and grandchildren, and make Weatherly their home."She was a little White Haven girl. I met her at a fireman's parade, and she worked at Split Rock," Maurice Kunkel said. "I started to date her. And within a year, I married her."On Tuesday, they renewed the vows they made back in 1950 at Weatherly Borough Hall.The Kunkels were one of three couples, including Mayor Tom Connors and his wife, Michele, who renewed their vows.Connors presided over the ceremony, saying the ability to officiate weddings is one of his greatest privileges as mayor."It's a great honor to be able to do that, to bring two people together, two families together," Connors said.The couples pledged to continue to be loving partners in marriage before reciting the traditional marriage vows.Connors said the three couples who renewed their vows had been married 66, 33 and 11 years respectively.The third couple, Brian and Kathleen Zubritsky, were married 11 years ago at Zion Lutheran Church in Weatherly. This time, they were joined by their two children, Mason and Remi.Kathleen said that Brian completely surprised her with the proposal to renew their vows."We talked about doing it back in December, but it didn't work out for us. So I said 'Oh, I guess we'll wait until it's our 15th anniversary.' Then he completely surprised me with this, I had no idea," she said.Connors and his wife, Michele, were wed in New Jersey. They have seven children.The typically casual mayor, who would normally be seen in coveralls, donned a suit and turned the borough hall into a wedding chapel for the occasion.He thanked the couples for choosing to renew their vows for the holiday."I hope it's special for you because I know it's special for me," he said.
