Prothonotary's report

A total of case 321 were started in January in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:Civil actions, 38; custody complaints, 13; complaints to modify custody, 12; district justice appeals, 7; divorce complaints, 17; complaints in ejectment, 2; license appeal, 1; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 8; name change petitions, 2; protection from abuse petitions, 28; auditor/financial report, 1; court appointments, 2; judgments, 159; miscellaneous cases, 3; paternity suit, 1; stipulation/waiver of liens, 1; and writs of execution, 27. The office also processed 166 passport applications and provided assistance to the public for 82 passport renewal applications.Behrens' financial report for January shows $31,952.97 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $27,014.61; interest income $0.86; custody/divorce fee; $1,300; PFA data processing fees, $3,637.50; and remote access fees, $5,700.The prothonotary also remitted $3,705.53 the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $70.40 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
