Tax collectors in Schuylkill County will continue to be compensated at the same rate as they were in 2013.
Commissioners at a regular public meeting Wednesday agreed to keep the figures the same as the last adjustment.The compensation is adjusted every five years.Since 2013, tax collectors have gotten $2 for every real estate tax bill they collected and 25 cents for every per capita bill. They also get a 0.75 percent commission on the real estate bills, with a $25 cap, said county Treasurer Linda L. Marchalk.However, she said most will end up making slightly more because the a property tax rate increase."While the commissioners have kept the salary the same, they have to keep in mind that our rate did go up 1 mill, so the tax collectors will see a little bit of an increase in salary," Marchalk said.In other matters, commissioners awarded a $325,515 contract to Barrasso Excavation of Oley, Berks County for a Community Development Block Grant waterline project on Cherry Valley Road in Cass Township.They also approved a contract with Korn Ferry for actuarial services for the year.Also, commissioners approved a $21,780 co-op agreement for veterans' grave flags for Memorial Day.The county will be receiving 39,600, flags, which will be delivered the week of April 16.
