Monday night the East Penn Township board of supervisors decided on 4½ more miles of road to receive repairs in 2017.

Supervisor Steven Heckman said Sportsman Club Road will be completed along with the rest of the gravel road projects ahead of schedule.“Brandon has tackled a lot of adverse conditions on that road,” Heckman said of new roadmaster Brandon Bradford.“I told him to rest up because we’re going to hit these projects full force.”Heckman informed the board that the community has been pleased with the road crew’s speed and effectiveness in clearing the roadways during the inclement weather this winter.“We’ve gotten a lot of compliments with the snow removal and salting. The crew is moving on all eight cylinders right now,” he said.Picnic Woods, West Bowmans, Churchill, Friendship, Stone Mountain, Pinewood, Sassafras and Hollow roads were all listed to be repaired this year, bringing the total up to 12 miles of fixed roadways out of 41 miles originally listed by the extensive study conducted in early 2016.“The roadmaster and I have been out to get details for the repair. We narrowed it down to those roads to receive base, drainage and scratch course work to smooth the road out before it is seal coated,” said township engineer Michael Muffley. “We came up with three months to prep the roads for tar and chip.”Bradford suggested starting with West Bowmans Road as it will require the most time to fix. “Then we should move on to Picnic Woods. The rest won’t eat up as much time,” he said.“How many more people would you need for seasonal help to get this done, Brandon?” Chairman William Schwab asked.Bradford said seven crew members would be required.“We are replacing one full-time who just left,” Supervisor Deanna Cunfer said.The board agreed to look through applications the township has already received for seasonal and part-time workers and begin interviewing candidates.
