Driver pulled in front of traffic, caused crash

A Kunkletown man was cited by state police at the Lehighton barracks with failure to yield to a stop sign or yield sign following a two-vehicle collision at 4:42 p.m. Feb. 3 at the intersection of Route 534 and Acorn Drive in Polk Township.

Police said Quintin A. Vesga, 19, was cited after the crash. Vesga, driving a 2004 Chevrolet Avalanche, pulled out from Acorn Drive attempting a left-hand turn onto Route 534 when he directly entered the path of a 2013 Ford Fusion driven by Derek W. Hoffman, 45, also of Kunkletown. Hoffman was eastbound on Route 534 at the time.Police said therear driver's side of the Avalanche was struck by the front end of the Fusion.It spun counterclockwise and wasfacing north on the westbound lane on Route 534.Both vehicles were towed from the scene.Police said Hoffman was slightly injured and was treated at the scene by the West End Ambulance personnel.
