Domestic violence comes in many forms

Schuylkill Women in Crisis said both men and woman are susceptible to domestic violence.

SWIC offers tips for identifying abusive relationships, information on protection from abuse orders and resources for leaving an abuser.Verbal abuse includes: name-calling, put downs, yelling, use of profanity, unfounded accusations, cruel and hurtful remarks, degrading the victim in public, diminishing accomplishments and flying into a rage.Physical abuse includes choking/strangulation, holding the victim against their will, throwing or breaking objects, pushing, shoving, slapping, biting, punching, kicking, using or threatening to use a weapon, and murder.Victims can also suffer emotional abuse, such as: isolation, ignoring, controlling finances or employment, lack of trust or being suspicious, following or stalking the victim, criticism, threats of suicide/taking away children/physical violence/murder, minimizes or denies behavior/explosive or critical reactions.Then there's sexual abuse, which ranges from rape, forced/unwanted sexual acts, use of weapons during sex, forced sex with multiple partners, inflicting pain during sex, unpermitted video recording of sex acts and threats of posting photos of sexual contact without permission.If you live in Schuylkill County and need help dealing with domestic abuse, call SWIC's 24 hour hotline at 800-282-0634.
