Monroe County Commissioner John Christy met with Gov. Tom Wolf last week along with a number of business leaders, police, and elected and school officials.

"Gov. Wolf came to Monroe County last Friday in continuation of his statewide initiative to hear the concerns that Pennsylvanians are facing," Christy said during the weekly commissioner's meeting."The problems of Monroe County may not be the same as Blair County. We talked about school taxes, reassessment or property values, DEP rules as well as the opioid crisis."Christy said, Wolf was impressed with the progress being made by Mount Pocono Medical, a methadone clinic that is one of Wolf's Centers for Excellence."While at the clinic Wolf heard sobriety stories of some of the patients in attendance,Christy said, "He also heard the concerns of the local police and the Monroe County coroner."On Tuesday Wolf announced that the 2017-18 budget would include $10 million to provide naloxone to first responders."Expanding access to naloxone is crucial in continuing our fight against the opioid epidemic," Wolf said Tuesday."We cannot help our family members, friends, neighbors and fellow citizens get the treatment they need if they die from an overdose or prescription opioids or heroin. Since November of 2014, more than 2,320 opioid overdoses have been reversed by first responders across Pennsylvania."Other business• During the meeting the commissioners also agreed to execute an agreement with Maillie LLP for auditing and consulting services in the amounts of $67,500 and $8,500, respectively.• A proposal from Otis Elevator was accepted to repair an elevator at the courthouse for $3,654.56.• The independent contractor agreements for staff management staff at the Northeast PA Regional Counter Terrorism Task Force were also approved for Robert Werts, Program Manager, Sandra Hoyas, Financial Manager and William Clark, Equipment Manager.• The balances in the liquid fuels tax funds for 2016 are: County liquid fuels tax fund, $226,925.88; Act 44 county liquid fuels tax fund, $261,837.19; Act 89 county liquid fuels tax fund, $135,021.85.• Rose Schwedler and John Parker Jr. were reappointed to the Monroe County Hospital Authority.
