A former Tamaqua man acknowledged in Schuylkill County court that authorities have enough evidence to convict him of aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

Kyle M. Hoppes, 28, now of Orefield, pleaded no contest to the charges before Judge Jacqueline L. Russell.The plea is not an admission of guilt; rather, Hoppes offered no defense.Russell sentenced him to 12 months on probation, and to perform 20 hours community service. She also forbade him from having any contact with the victim and his family.Hoppes was also ordered to pay court costs and fees.According to Tamaqua police, they were contacted by a Bowe Street resident on April 20, 2016. The man said Hoppes stopped in front of his home, pointed it out to a female passenger, held up a bundle and laughed at him.Hoppes returned about 15 minutes later and repeated the actions.After Hoppes drove away, the victim could still hear the car, so he began walking west on South Street, and found the car Hoppes was driving parked in the 100 block of South Street.Hoppes and his passenger, identified as Carina Leach, then 19, of Middleport, were still in the car.The victim was standing near the car's front headlight when Hoppes hit the gas pedal and headed west. The victim narrowly escaped being struck by the car, jumping out of the way just as the car accelerated.About an hour later, as the victim was on the phone with police, Leach returned to the area, took photos of the victim's house and threatened that "E is coming to take care of you."She was cited for harassment.Hoppes was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment.
