Tamaqua man jailed for resisting, warrant

A Tamaqua man was sent to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville on Jan. 21 after resisting arrest.

Tamaqua police were conducting an investigation at 8;50 p.m. in the 300 block of East Broad Street when they noticed Joseph Cierlitsky, who appeared to be drunk. He was carrying a half empty bottle of whiskey under his left arm.When the officers spoke to Cierlitsky, the man began emptying his pockets, repeatedly saying he had no drugs on him. A records search found an outstanding warrant for his arrest, issued by Lackawanna County on drug related charges.Cierlitsky tried to run, then began struggling with officers when they tried to arrest him.He was charged with resisting arrest, possession of drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness and arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony Kilker, of Shenandoah, who set bail at $25,000 straight cash.
