Thorpe rape suspect turns self in, sent to jail

The man wanted by the Jim Thorpe Police Department for allegedly committing sexual offenses against children turned himself in and was arraigned on charges Friday morning.

Jared "Chubby" Weiss, 21, of Jim Thorpe, was arraigned at 8:45 a.m. on Friday before Magisterial District Judge Eric Schrantz on charge of sexually assaulting a boy in two incidents between February 2011 and June 2012. The victim is now 13, according to the affidavit.

He was charged with five felony charges: criminal attempt, rape of a child; criminal attempt; criminal attempt, rape by forcible compulsion; unlawful contact with minors; sexual offenses and indecent assault person less than 13 years of age; and seven misdemeanor charges: indecent assault, complainant less than 13 years of age; two counts of indecent assault forcible compulsion; two counts of indecent assault threat forcible compulsion; stalking, repeatedly commit acts to cause fear; and unlawful contact with a minor.

Weiss was taken to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail. Bail was set at $75,000.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 2:45 p.m. on Feb. 1.
