19 arrests in prostitution sting
Nineteen people were arrested in a prostitution sting in Monroe County.
The Monroe County District Attorney's Office conducted a large scale operation Friday at the Quality Inn Motel on West Main Street in Stroudsburg.Spearheaded by Detective Kim Lippincott, assisting in the arrests were Pennsylvania State Police, Wayne County DA Detectives, Bethlehem Township Police and Colonial Regional Police.Monroe County Children and Youth Services case workers, and crisis counselors from Truth for Women were present to offer assistance as needed.Samuel Stewart, 24 of East Stroudsburg, and Derrel Wilson, 32, and Devereaux Rowlette, 28, both of Mount Vernon, New York, were charged with trafficking of individuals, involuntary servitude and promoting prostitution.Two women whose identities are being protected, were recovered as victims of human sex trafficking. These victims were taken to the Truth Home, a nonprofit organization that provides a safe living environment and works with women to restore hope after sexual exploitation.Samantha Funk, 23, of Portland, and Jacqueline Mercado, 29, of Providence, Rhode Island, were charged with promoting prostitution.Sherin Darwish, 24, of Stroudsburg, and Dahiana Ileana Bencosme, 29, of Allentown, were arrested for prostitution.Arrested for patronizing a prostitute were Karam Abuolba, 46, of Tobyhanna, Christian Gaca, 35, of Tobyhanna, Jonathan Garcis, 36, of Tobyhanna, Eugene Groller, 28, of Bangor, Danny Mohammed, 20, of Stroudsburg, Keith Ream, 54, of Reading, Timothy Trebilcock, 32, of Bushkill, Thomas Trexler, 59, of Bethlehem, and Clint Weiss, 56 of Cresco.Chester Botch, 47, of Long Pond, was arrested for possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. Botch delivered a brick of heroin (50 bags) to a woman in a hotel room during the prostitution sting.Wilson, Rowlette and Stewart were arraigned on Jan. 14 by Magisterial District Judge Philip Riley, and bail was set at $50,000 secured. Botch was also arraigned on Jan. 14, as bail was set at $25,000 secured. All will appear before Magisterial District Judge Kristina Anzini at a later date.
