A state constable was bitten by a dog while serving a warrant and had to shoot the animal.

State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred at 11:42 a.m. Jan. 12 at a residence along Ross Lane in Ross Township, Monroe County.Troopers said while Eldred Township constable Richard Salter was attempting to serve a warrant, he was bitten by a German shepherd.Troopers said after Salter knocked on the door the dog came out of the residence and bit him. The constable sustained injuries to his left arm. Salter’s arm had bleeding bite marks, troopers said.Troopers said Salter shot the animal in the face once the animal came after him a second time.Police did not release the name of the person or the purpose of the warrant.The dog was taken to Creature Comforts where he died while in surgery.
