According to Walnutport Borough’s Zoning Officer, Sean Corey, the municipality may soon host a Taco Bell.

Thursday night, borough council heard about the preliminary sketch plans for a 66-seat restaurant to be submitted by Valley Pizza owners.The proposed proposal would completely revamp the pizza-Chinese eatery that occupies the corner of Main Street and Best Avenue to complete a fast-food trifecta for the busy intersection in Walnutport.The pizza shop, established in 1976, would then be moved to the former Chinese restaurant that has sat vacant for some time.“They will bring the sketch plans to next week’s planning commission meeting,” Corey said.Jason Newhard, borough engineer, also introduced the 2017 street project to the board.First Avenue will receive repair work at a cost of $240,000.“It’s going to be paid for by a CDBG grant. We will get it worked out to get bids out as soon as possible,” Newhard said.In addition to the avenue overhaul, 10 Walnutport streets will receive a tar and chip treatment after winter and four streets will be trimmed of overlaying branches.“It’s going to cost $110,992,” councilwoman Nancy Treskot said.“We are asking for approval because we have the money from FEMA, but we have to find out where (borough secretary and treasurer) Annette (Lacko) put it.”The board authorized Newhard to put together a bid proposal for the upcoming road work.“We have a nice town, we don’t want to go backward,” councilman David Stankovic said.“It’s been about five years since we did the overlays,” Newhard said.
