Fern Ridge Police investigate crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on three crashes investigated by troopers earlier this week.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred at noon on Monday at the intersection of routes 209 and 715 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.Troopers said Brenda Lomsky, 43, of Brodheadsville, was traveling on 715 southbound and attempted a left turn onto 209 while Laurentiu D. Babu, 48, of Effort, was southbound on 209.Troopers said Lomsky ran a red light at the intersection causing her 2006 Chevrolet Equinox to be struck by Babu's 2005 Honda CRV.No one was injured, but both vehicles had to be towed.Troopers cited Lomsky for the red light violation.• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 3:43 p.m. on Tuesday along Interstate 80 in East Side Borough, Carbon County. Troopers said Jeffrey J. Schenk, 32, of Freeland, was driving westbound in a 1999 Dodge Ram truck when he failed to slow down for a marked state police cruiser which had its emergency lights on. Schenk then crashed into the rear of a 2011 Freightliner semi-trailer that was stopped and operated by Vitaliy M. Moroz, 29, of Sportswood, New Jersey.Schenk was injured and taken to the Geisinger Medial Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County, for treatment of suspected serious injuries, troopers said.Troopers added that Schenk was suspected of driving under the influence. Moroz was not injured. The Dodge Ram was towed from the scene.Charges are pending against Schenk.• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 4:01 p.m. on Tuesday along Route 715 in Jackson Township, Monroe County.Troopers said Renee C. Galarza, 35, of Swiftwater was driving a 2005 Honda Element when it left the road and struck a utility pole. Galarza was not injured. She was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
