Trucker injured on turnpike

A Canadian truck driver was injured in a crash along the northeast extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike on Wednesday in Carbon County.

State police at the Pocono barracks identified the driver as Karanjit Lotey, 47, of Stoney Creek, Ontario.Troopers said Lotey was driving a 2000 International Harvester tractor with trailer southbound in the area of milepost marker 82.4 in Penn Forest Township at 11:54 a.m. when he failed to negotiate a left curve.The rig traveled off the right side of the road and collided with and went through a guide rail. It then rolled down an embankment, coming to rest at the bottom.Firefighters from several communities spent hours Wednesday to free Lotey from the wreckage. He was trapped more than two hours.He was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest. Troopers said he sustained serious injuries.Troopers said he will be cited.
