Meals on Wheels

Meals on Wheels of Palmerton needs volunteer drivers and delivery people to serve clients in the Palmerton area Monday through Friday. They need full-time volunteers (once a week, usually one hour) and also people who can fill in on short notice as needed.Contact William Gallagher at

The museum is looking for mine volunteers to help in the mine with replacing rails and ties. Temperatures in the winter is 52 degrees. Mine volunteers would work three to four hours a day on any working day.In the summer time, the grass must be cut and grass and weeds growing along its rail lines must be trimmed back.Volunteers are also needed to clean the museum.More members are needed to help during the two picnics per year to serve food. The Mine Heritage Day Festival is in need of volunteers to help with the parking of cars.Contact Dave Kuchta at

humblebee@ptd.net or 570-645-7074.Palmerton Hospital AuxiliaryThe Palmerton Hospital Auxiliary is looking for volunteers to work in the Owl's Nest Gift Shop in the Palmerton Hospital, in the Nearly New Thrift Shop on Delaware Avenue, to delivery mail in the Palmerton Hospital, or to work at Blue Mountain Health System's Adult Day Center in Lehighton.Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and must join the auxiliary. It is $3 per year for dues.Contact Lovey Irvin at 610-657-5420.Girl ScoutsGirl Scout Troop leader and co-leader positions are open in the Lehighton area. Daisy (grades K-1) at Franklin Elementary School from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. (immediate opening); Brownie (grades 2-3); Junior (grades 4-5); Cadette (grades 6-8); and Senior (grades 9-10) at any church in Lehighton or Franklin area.Volunteers must be: 1. 19 years or older; 2. wants to work with girls from the Lehighton area; 3. must register online at gsep.org (cost is $15); 4. must pass the background checks; 5. take two online courses (approximately 30 minutes each); 6. take one class at the Girl Scout Lehigh Valley Service Center; and 7. attend one Service Unit meeting monthly.There are also openings on the Service Unit team for anyone who wants to help plan and organize events and camping trips for the girls.
