Driver flown from tractor trailer wreck on turnpike

Firefighters from several communities spent hours Wednesday to rescue the trapped driver of a tractor trailer involved in a crash along the turnpike. The driver was flown from the scene to a nearby hospital.

The crash occurred at noon at the 82.4 mile marker in the southbound lanes. The rig went through the guard rails along the berm rolling down a steep embankment onto its roof.

The driver was trapped about two and one half hours.

A large heavy duty wrecker from Schlier Towning from Tannersville was brought into the site to assist in the rescue. The large telescoping boom was used to lift the wreckage to allow firefighters to remove the driver from what was left of the cab.

State police at Pocono are investigating the incident.
