A winter weather advisory is in effect from 6 pm today to 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Snow accumulations of up to 1 inch are expected, along with around one to two tenths of an inch of ice.

A brief period of snow is possible this afternoon. Additional mixed precipitation including freezing rain will move into the region this evening.

Ice and snow accumulations may create slippery road conditions.

The following schools have weather-related announcements:

Tamaqua Area School District will have early dismissal at 12:30 p.m. for high school and 1:30 p.m. for elementary, with no afternoon kindergarten.

Weatherly Area School District has canceled all after school programs.

JIm Thorpe has canceled all after-school activities.

Lehighton has canceled all after-school activities.

Pleasant Valley has canceled all after-school activities.

Due to the inclement weather forecast for Tuesday evening, the following high school sporting events have been postponed:

MEETINGS:

Tamaqua Area School Board's committee meeting originally scheduled for this evening has been postponed.

As a result, the committee meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 17, to be followed by the school board's regular monthly meeting immediately afterward.
