Even though the American job market’s growth could, at best, be described as glacial, there are plenty of lucrative opportunities available.

PA CareerLink of Carbon County will be focusing on two reliable sources of employment, health care and human services, for an upcoming job fair on Tuesday. The event will take place at LCCC’s Jim Thorpe Campus from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and will connect job seekers with numerous health networks, businesses, schools, and organizations to discuss options for employment and education.PA CareerLink, which is running the fair, seeks to educate job-seekers and provide them with valuable tools to keep up with an ever-changing market.“We assist customers who are laid off, or are looking for better work,” county site administrator Garry Wentz said. “We help with the basics of job search techniques, resume writing, interview techniques, and more.”This will be their first specialized job fair, and if it is a success, they hope to hold events for other industries, including manufacturing, warehouse logistics, and more.Wentz said that the health care market is often a viable source for employment, and it appears that there is a good potential for upward mobility with the right education and experience.“There’s a lot of what we call “churning,” people moving to other positions in the industry, or to other employers,” Wentz said.There are hundreds of openings at the hospitals and health care networks listed, ranging from maintenance to physician positions and more. Nursing is a particularly hot field, with each hospital network exhibiting plenty of open positions under various levels.However, post-secondary education and licensing are often required for some of the more lucrative positions. This is why CareerLink opted to include schools like CCTI and LCCC, which offer programs for nursing and other health care focused opportunities.
