If helping to make a difference is one of your New Year's resolutions, the West Penn Lions Club is offering to help you keep that resolution.The club meets the first and third Wednesdays of each month as they work toward helping others, both locally and nationally.Meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. in the West Penn Township Annex Building, located just off route 309 on Municipal Road.This month's meeting will be held on Jan. 18.For further information, call 570-386-2272.Soup socialThe next monthly community soup social at Trinity United Church of Christ will be held on Saturday. The social will be held from 4-6 p.m. in the social hall.The meal is free to the public and everyone is welcome to enjoy the soup, desserts, refreshments and time with friends.For more information or to volunteer, stop by the church at 22 Lafayette St. or call 570-668-4139.Christmas treesThe Borough of Tamaqua's Street Department will be collecting discarded Christmas trees throughout this month. Residents are to place their real trees curbside on their regular trash collection days. Trees will be collected as time and weather permit.Trees must be free of all tinsel and decorations. Residents are also asked to remove any bags that may have been used. Trees may also be dropped off behind the Tamaqua Borough Garage at 421 Rear E. Broad St.No trees will be collected after Jan. 31.Artist receptionThe Tamaqua Community Art Center will host a meet and greet reception for artist Suzanne Dalton on Thursday. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the center at 125 Pine St. Dalton now calls Tamaqua home after being born and raised in Philadelphia. After the reception, her work will be on display until Jan. 27.There is no admission fee and light refreshments will be served.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.Also on Sunday, a congregational meeting will be held at 11:45 a.m.Activities for next week include: Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, worship team practices at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 8 p.m.St. Peter's UnionSunday worship services in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville are held at 9 a.m. This Sunday's service will include a presentation of the Sunday school Christmas program.Also on Sunday, Girl and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Tuesday, newsletter deadline, prayer group meets at 5 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m.; Thursday, Confirmation class meets at 6:30 p.m., junior choir rehearses at 7 p.m., senior choir practice is at 7:30 p.m.Calvary EvangelicalThe Rev.
