Schuylkill commissioners approve contracts

Schuylkill County commissioners on Wednesday approved an agreement between the Adult Probation Department and a Pottsville firm for psychological services.

Deputy Chief at Schuylkill County Adult Probation Neil N. Stefanisko asked commissioners to approve the contract with Psychological Associates of Schuylkill County to provide the services for one year to indigent defendants.They are psychosexual assessment at $350; polygraph testing at $350; individual counseling at $85; and group counseling at $35.In other matters, commissioners also approved the payment of $8,555 to Maria T. Casey for work she did for the county Children and Youth Services Agency from July 1, 2015, through Dec. 31, 2015.Casey was legal counsel for the agency proper to her election to Clerk of Courts in November 2015.Agency director Lisa Stevens said the contract for the work, which was yet to be completed when Casey was elected, was only recently signed.Commissioner Gary J. Hess said that in the future, any contracts must be signed before work is done.County Administrator Gary R. Bender said after the meeting that a county solicitor had reviewed the contract in 2015, and that commissioners' action Wednesday ratified it."That's her final invoice," he said.In other matters, commissioners accepted the retirement of Joseph E. Lipsett of Branch Township as enforcement officer 1 for the Office of Domestic Relations.Lipsett, a retired state trooper who was recently hired by Rush Township as its police chief, will be replaced by Jill Mataka of Ringtown.Mataka, who was promoted from secretary 1, will earn the same wage as Lipsett, $21.24 an hour.
