Theft incidents in Tamaqua

Tamaqua police are investigating four thefts reported during the Christmas holidays, including the theft of a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer that was later found torched in the area of the Tamaqua Elementary School.

The SUV was taken from a garage to the rear of the 600 block of East Broad Street, sometime between 2 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 26. The vehicle struck construction barriers on Schuylkill Avenue sometime around 4 a.m., leaving a side view mirror behind. It was later found near the school.Also stolen that morning was a purse from a vehicle parked on Hazle Street. The purse contained several credit cards, $173 in cash and the victim's driver's license. That license was found next to the burned out Mountaineer.On Christmas Eve officers received two theft reports.At 10:11 a.m., a resident of Van Gelder Street reported that an outdoor, decorative Christmas tree, 4 feet high, was taken from her front porch. The thief cut the power cord rather than unplug it from an outside outlet. The tree is valued at $100.Someone took a green and red laser light display from a yard on Willing Street.Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to contact police at 570-668-5000.
