A deteriorating bridge in Port Clinton will be replaced.

Schuylkill County commissioners Frank J. Staudenmeier and Chairman George F. Halcovage Jr., with Commissioner Gary J. Hess absent, on Wednesday agreed to send a letter to the Northeastern Pennsylvania Metropolitan Planning Organization seeking approval for the project.There is no cost estimate at this point, but the project would be paid for by the county’s Act 13 bridge funds.The bridge, No. 23, on Broad Street, spans the Little Schuylkill River.If approved, the project can then be added to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s current Transportation Improvement Program.The span is a steel girder bridge built in 1926, in poor condition and structurally deficient.In other matters, commissioners ratified a 47-month contract with Constellation Newenergy Inc. for electricity supply to the county 911 center beginning in January 2018.Commissioners also approved a subrecipient agreement with Servants To All for the administration of the 2016 emergency solutions grant, effective Sept. 29, 2016.The courthouse will be closed MondayCommissioners will meet to reorganize at 10 a.m. Tuesday.The next commissioners’ meeting will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
