December 29, 1973 - Northwestern crowns four individual champions en route to claiming the team title at the Jim Thorpe Christmas wrestling tournament. Three of the Tigers earn pins in the championship round. They include Chris Wentz at 98 pounds, Dale Dengler at 119, and Randy Fritzinger at heavyweight. Randy Betz claims the 126-pound gold with a decision win. Northwestern also has three of its wrestlers gain runner-up finishes. The host Olympians crown three champs - Guy Franko at 132 pounds, Dean Beers at 145, and Keith Pry at 185.
