Two people were injured in a four-vehicle pileup at 11:40 a.m. Mondayon Interstate 81 in Kline Township, according to state police at the Frackville barracks.
Police said Jeanne Capparell, 61, of Ashland, and Harvey B. Steinman, 72, of Columbia, Maryland, sustained suspected minor injuries.Police said the incident happened in the northbound lanes when a BMW driven by Capparell was struck from behind by a tractor-trailer driven by Sangha S. Harpreet, 37, of Bakersfield, California. The impact caused the BMW to cross the left lane and travel onto the median.Meanwhile, the rig continued north and due to the ice-covered highway struck the rear of a 2001 Jeep operated by Mark J. Harvey, 45, of Galax, Virginia, causing it to strike the rear of a 2007 BMW driven by Steinman.Police said Harpreet was cited for failure to drive at a safe speed.
