Artist reception

The Tamaqua Community Art Center will host a meet and greet reception for artist Suzanne Dalton on Jan. 5. The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the center at 125 Pine St.Dalton now calls Tamaqua home after being born and raised in Philadelphia. After the reception, her work will be on display until Jan. 27.There is no admission fee and light refreshments will be served.The public is welcome to attend.Support groupsThe Tamaqua area has a number of support groups to help people with different types of addiction.Alcoholics Anonymous has multiple weekly meetings at two locations. St. John's Lutheran Church, Pine and Mauch Chunk streets, has meetings at 8 p.m. on Thursdays and Fridays. Meetings are also held at 8 p.m. on Wednesdays; 10 a.m. on Fridays and 7:30 p.m. on Sundays at St. John XXIII Parish Center, 266 W. Broad St.Narcotics Anonymous meetings are held at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays at the Tamaqua Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St.Nar-Anon Family Support Group meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. Thursdays, at First United Methodist Church, 124 W. Broad St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. worship service New Year's Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.Activities for next week include: Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, worship team practices at 7 p.m., worship leaders meet at 8 p.m.Snow rulesWith the advent of colder winter weather comes the reminder that snow could fall at any time. Tamaqua residents are reminded of borough rules concerning snow removal.Property owners are required to maintain a clear path, at least 3 feet wide, on sidewalks. Snow and ice must be removed from these pathways within 24 hours of the end of a snowstorm.Snow, ice and other materials may not be thrown into the streets. Fines of $25 and up may be imposed on anyone caught throwing snow or ice into the street, or who fails to maintain a snow-free pathway.People who plow snow from in front of homes and businesses must remove any piles of snow they create. Anyone piling snow in the street or parking areas could be cited.Residents are asked to refrain from piling snow near fire hydrants or on top of storm drains and are encouraged to clear snow from these areas.
