Man gets drunk, assaults policemen

Gregory Everett, 48, of Lehighton, is in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning. after assaulting two state policemen on Christmas Eve.

Police were called to a residence on the 1500 block of Indian Hill Road in Franklin Township, where Everett was reported to be in a "highly intoxicated state."Everett is charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault, misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and disorderly conduct and a summary charge of public drunkenness.The incident started when police were called at 8:05 p.m. to assist emergency medical services personnel with a highly-intoxicated subject who was threatening to harm himself.Troopers Gary Fedor and Daniel Coates responded to the residence and made contact with Everett, who they described as appearing "under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to a degree he was a danger to himself and others."Police said Everett refused to cooperate with EMS personnel or go to the hospital for treatment. Police said he became violent and engaged in fighting and threatening behavior.Police said Everett shoved Coates. When the officer and Trooper Fedor attempted to place him under arrest and take him into custody, he resisted the arrest to the extent that police had to use "substantial force to overcome the resistance to gain compliance and place Everett in handcuffs."Police said Everett repeatedly kicked Fedor in the arm and chest while the officer attempted to place him in the police cruiser. Then, during the transport, the man "engaged in tumultuous, fighting and threatening behavior by kicking the doors and windows of the cruiser."Police said when Trooper Fedor attempted to have Everett get out of the cruiser, he repeatedly kicked the trooper again in the chest, stomach and arm.Everett was arraigned by an on-duty magisterial district judge and taken to jail. Bail was set at $20,000.
