Woman charged with taking drugs to daughter in jail

Detectives from the Monroe County District Attorney's Office arrested Kimberly Grezch, 44, of Stroudsburg, for attempting to deliver heroin and meth to her daughter, Melissa Mangione, 22, an inmate at the Monroe County Correctional Facility.

The daughter, Mangione, has also been arrested for the drug delivery and faces additional charges for retaliating against a witness by assaulting another inmate.On Nov. 1, corrections officers found a package in the female visitor bathroom at the Monroe County Correctional Facility in Hamilton Township. The package was found in a toilet seat cover dispenser and contained a hypodermic needle, two cigarettes, matches, three bags of heroin and methamphetamine. Corrections officers turned the package over to detectives with the Monroe County District Attorney's Office.Detective Mario Orlando conducted an investigation regarding the package that was found.During the investigation he learned that the contraband was to be retrieved by a unit worker, an inmate assigned to clean the visitor bathrooms after visitation hours. Detective Orlando interviewed the unit worker who said that (inmate) Mangione instructed her to pick up the package.Upon further investigation, Detective Orlando was able to determine that the package was dropped off by an unidentified female during visiting hours. The unidentified female was instructed to hide the package by Kimberly Grezch, Mangione's mother, so that unit worker could retrieve it for Mangione.The next time Mangione and Grezch communicated with each other was on Nov. 3, when Mangione called her mother, upset, stating that the package that she dropped off was taken by officers and she never received it.Mangione tells her mother that they cannot discuss it over the phone, that she will write her a letter, but a few minutes later the topic is brought up again. Mangione said that she thought that the unit worker, instead of delivering the package, used the drugs herself. Mangione repeated to her mother again that she never received the package.All conversations to inmates, as a matter of routine, are recorded by correctional authorities, as was this one.Grezch was arrested by Detective Mario Orlando on Dec. 2. She has been charged with contraband, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy.Grezch was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Michael Muth where bail was denied. Grezch, at the time of her arrest was out on bail for an unrelated case.Charges were filed against Melissa Mangione by Detective Mario Orlando on Dec. 5. She has been charged with contraband, attempted possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, attempted possession of a controlled substance and conspiracy.On Dec. 3, Melissa Mangione was involved in a fight on F Unit at the Monroe County Correctional Facility. Mangione assaulted the unit worker, accusing her of being a snitch.In addition to the conspiracy charges for the drug delivery in November, Mangione has also been charged with simple assault and retaliation of a witness for the altercation on Dec. 3.
