Route 209 reopens after Tuesday crash

A one-car crash Tuesday at about 3:48 p.m. on Route 209 in Mahoning Township resulted in the road being shut down to traffic for more than 16 hours.

The road reopened at 8:30 this morning.Officer Tyler Meek of the Mahoning Township Police Department, who is investigating the crash, said Kendall Redline, 36, of Jim Thorpe, was traveling southbound on Route 209 (towards Jim Thorpe) when she lost control of her vehicle, causing it to go off the highway and strike a utility pole. Meek said the pole “snapped in half,” leaving wires attached to a transformer hanging about three feet in the air.Redline was uninjured, and even drove to the parking lot of the Bagel Bunch, located on top of Route 209.Meek said PPL Utilities personnel spend the late-afternoon and early-morning hours at the scene.Meek said there were no long-period interruptions of power, although “six homes were affected,” he said. The officer said charges against Redline are pending the completion of his investigation.
