House, 2 vehicles damaged in crash on Fireline Road

A house and two vehicles were damaged when a car went out of control on the slush-covered roadway of the Fireline Road at 1:34 p.m. Saturday, injuring the driver.

State police at the Lehighton barracks said Betty L. Serfass, 81, of Palmerton, was driving a 2007 Toyota Camry southbound and was attempting to negotiate a left curve in the roadway when the car began to spin counter-clockwise.Police said it struck a tree with its rear-end on the south shoulder of the roadway, continuing to slide on Fireline Road, across the double lines and into the northbound lane.Police said the car traveled about 100 feet, striking the east side of a residence at 543 Fireline Road, then spinning counter-clockwise and striking an unoccupied, parked 2003 Jeep Liberty.Police said the Camry sustained disabling damages and was towed from the scene.Serfass sustained suspected minor injuries and was transported to the Palmerton Hospital in the Palmerton ambulance.The Liberty received minor damages while the residence sustained damages to the front porch area.
