Man pleads guilty to threat with gun

A Luzerne County man who threatened two people with a gun, discharging the weapon three times, entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Monday.

Kevin Alejandro Polanco Perez, 18, of Hazleton, pleaded to two counts of aggravated assault and one count of terroristic threats before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Perez was arrested on Aug. 21 by state police at Hazleton for an incident in a wooded area off Route 93 and Spring Mountain Road in Packer Township. Troopers said Perez came to a party being held in the woods and displayed a handgun to Brandon Barzilay and Kyle Traub. He fired one shot into the air while threatening the two. As the two fled the area, troopers said Perez fired two more shots in the direction of Barzilay and Traub. The police report did not indicate why Perez confronted the two victims.Matika told Perez in addition to the sentencing guidelines for the charges he pleaded to, because of the gun, the court may impose a deadly weapon enhancement on the threats count, which would add additional jail time to the standard range sentence.Perez has a pending charge of possession with intent to deliver in Luzerne County.Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
