A Lehighton man was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday on charges of resisting arrest and institutional vandalism, while a New York state woman received a probation term on an unauthorized use charge. Both previously pleaded guilty to the charges.

Lehighton incidentAndrew Lee Alvarez, 29, was sentenced to serve three to one day less 24 months on the resisting charge and 24 months of probation on the vandalism count, with the terms running consecutively.He was arrested by Lehighton police on Aug. 21 in the 100 block of South First Street. Police responded to a reported altercation and found Alvarez involved in a dispute. After taking him into custody he resisted and also kicked the door of a police cruiser causing damages.Alvarez is currently serving a weekend sentence on a driving under the influence charge imposed by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. In that case he was sentenced to serve 90 days to five years in jail, pay a fine of $1,500 and his license was suspended for 18 months.He told Serfass he has only served about five weekends of the 45 weekend term.Serfass also ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendations for treatment, zero tolerance imposed for drug or alcohol use, and render 100 hours of community service.On the vandalism charge he was ordered to pay total restitution of $1,580.22 and render an additional 100 hours of community service.Serfass said Alvarez can serve the term on weekends meaning after he finishes the 45 weekends on the DUI charge will continue and serve an additional 45 weekends.Unauthorized useSheila Renee Lollis, 48, of Syracuse, and formerly of Mount Pocono, was placed on 18 months supervision by Serfass.She was charged by state police at Lehighton with taking a vehiclewithout the owner's permission.At the time of her guilty plea, she told Serfass that she andthe vehicle's owner once had a relationship, but it ended and she had his vehicle but admitted not returning it when he told her to.Lollis was also ordered to make restitutionfor damages to the vehicle of $1,039, have no contact with the victim and render 75 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation.
