A Palmerton man was sentenced to a long county prison term Tuesday afternoon after previously pleading guilty to a driving under the influence charge.

He was one of five defendants who had previously entered pleas to DUI and were sentenced by Carbon President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.Dennis Ray Elmore, 54, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve nine months to five years, pay a fine of $1,500 and his license was suspended for 18 months.He was arrested on March 16 by state police at Lehighton along Forest Inn Road in Towamensing Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. Elmore's prior criminal record was the reason for the long prison term for the DUI count.He also pleaded to driving under suspension and was fined $200. He was given credit for 29 days already spent in jail on the charge.Elmore is facing a probation violation on a DUI charge in Lehigh County and is an inmate in Carbon County on the current charges.David Paul Huszar Jr., 51, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve 90 days to five years in prison. He will serve 30 days in prison followed by 59 months in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program with the first 60 days on electronic monitoring. He must also pay a fine of $3,500, his license was suspended for 18 months and zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use. On a summary offense he was fined $25 and costs.He was arrested on Feb. 13 along Mauch Chunk Road by Palmerton police. He refused a blood test.He was given credit for 10 days spent in jail on the charge and will serve the remaining 20 days on consecutive weekends beginning on Dec. 16 at 7:30 p.m.Michael Shane Sosko, 39, of Kunkletown, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000 and one-year license suspension.He was arrested on Sept. 5, 2015, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Franklin Township. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He is currently serving a 90-day jail term in Monroe County on another criminal charge.Nanovic ruled the DUI term would run consecutive to the Monroe sentence.Brett Michael Kern, 32, of Bangor, was sentenced to serve 90 days in prison on a driving under suspension - DUI related charge and six months probation on a DUI charge. He must pay fines totaling $1,300. The probation term is consecutive to the suspension sentence.He will serve the jail time on consecutive weekends beginning at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30.He arrested on March 5 by Franklin Township police along Fairyland Road. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC.Jennifer Rene Rufe, 29, of Effort, was sentenced to serve five days to six months in prison, a fine of $1,500 and one-year license suspension. She was also ordered to get a mental health evaluation.She was arrested on March 27, 2015, along Route 209 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. She didn't immediately stop and was charged with fleeing and eluding. That charge was dropped in a plea bargain with the district attorney's office.She will serve the prison term starting at midnight on Dec. 19.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
