Slatington Council passed a motion to re-examine a zoning code regarding the hours a tattoo parlor can operate within the municipality. “The 624 ordinance limits hours between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.,” Rinker said.

According to Jones, bars are the only other business to face time restrictions established by the state.A motion was made to draft an updated ordinance and advertise it for the public.Charlotte Fay on Main Street Diner owner Jason Ruff thanked the board for its forward thinking on the issue.“Being able to toss out stuff like that will positively impact our local economy,” he said.He reported to the board the progress being made by the Main Street Merchant’s Group and the success of the annual First Friday.“The library said it was the most children ever. The residents said they loved the farmers market and would love to have more things like this,” Ruff said.“We will host more First Fridays. They will be hosted every other month starting with Feb. 3. We will have events and activities at the businesses,” he said.Ruff requested police foot patrol during the bimonthly business event. He also requested prompt snow and ice removal in the business district to keep patrons safe.“Especially at those vacant buildings,” he said.Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber President Nancy Treskot also spoke to the board about the borough’s First Friday.“We want to thank Bryon for letting us use his building for the farmers market,” she said.“For those who did not approve of the events, in the future if there are problems please do not complain to the vendors, please see me. Put petty differences aside. We are all a community, bottom line.”Treskot chided the borough, saying, “You have something no one else has in this area, you have a Main Street and you don’t appreciate it. Please put the differences aside and focus on the community. Keep in mind people are watching what you do here.”As the meeting drew to a close one volunteer firefighter from Walnutport questioned the board regarding former Slatington Fire Chief Keith Weaver’s future with the department.“The issue is closed,” Council President  Gwyneth Jones said. “He is no longer chief and has been replaced by Jason (Nicholas).”
