A woman was found guilty in a drug sale case while a man was found not guilty in an assault incident at the conclusion of two trials conducted last week in Carbon County court.

Kathleen Roth, 53, of Jim Thorpe, was found guilty of two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one count of possession of a controlled substance following a two-day trial.Jim Thorpe police charged her for an incident on May 13, 2015. Police set up a controlled buy of heroin from Roth to a confidential informant that occurred near Roth's home.She claimed that the person who brought the heroin to her home for the sale actually gave the heroin to the CI and took the $80 for it.The trial was held before Judge Steven R. Serfass, who deferred sentencing to a later date. Assistant District Attorney Seth Miller prosecuted the case and Roth was defended by court-appointed attorney Adam Weaver.In the assault caseGeorge F. Schouppe III, 29, of Lehighton, was found not guilty of one count of aggravated assault, and two counts each of recklessly endangering another person and simple assault following a three-day trial.Schouppe was charged by Lehighton police for an incident on Dec. 27, 2012, in the area of South Third and Alum streets. He was accused of assaulting Dennis Frey during an altercation. Police said Schouppe struck Frey in the face, knocking him to the ground, which caused him to strike his head. He was taken to the Lehighton hospital and later transferred to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, and admitted to the trauma unit. He has since recovered.Schouppe claimed that he was defending himself and that Frey was the aggressor in the incident.The trial was held before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. Assistant District Attorney Cynthia Ann Dyrda Hatton was the prosecutor and defense attorney was Matthew J. Rapa.
