Carbon County Friends of Animals is trying to make Christmas a little cheerier for some cats this holiday season.

The nonprofit shelter, located at 77 W. 13th St., Jim Thorpe, is reducing its adopting fees for the holidays."We are very overcrowded and our wishes are for these wonderful felines to find loving and caring homes, especially for the holiday season," said Kimmy Mulik, CCFOA board member. "If a reduction in the adoption rates allows this to occur, then we are happy. Our number one concern is the animals." The reduced rates for cat adoptions is adult, $30; kittens, $35; seniors, $25; and cardboard carriers, $5.Adoption hours at the shelter are noon to 4 p.m.CCFOA is also hosting one final day of photos with Santa.Pets, children and families are welcome to visit the shelter from 2 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 17 to get their photo taken with Santa Claus for $10.People who come can receive $2 off their photo with a donation of one of the shelter's wish list items.Things the shelter needs includes: bleach, Purina cat and kitten food, non-clumping cat litter, black Sharpie markers, baby rice cereal, Gerber's chicken baby food (no veggie), cat nail clippers, cat beds, paper towels, hand soap, latex rubber gloves (all sizes), cleaning products, plastic spray bottles, dish/laundry detergent, heavy black garbage bags, brooms/mops, dust pans/brushes, copy paper, Post-it pads, blue, yellow & pink index cards, pens, monetary donations and volunteers.For more information on adopting a cat, photos with Santa or how to help the shelter, call 570-325-9400 or visit during shelter hours.
