The North Central Pa. Regional Sobriety Checkpoint DUI Taskforce and Expanded DUI/Underage Drinking Enforcement Program has released the following information from recent Sobriety Checkpoint and Roving DUI patrols in Schuylkill County.
Eight police departments, represented by 11 officers, participated in the checkpoint, which was held Nov. 23 in Minersville. A total of 433 vehicles were contacted with 33 detained. Five motorists were tested, with all five adults arrested, for suspected DUI. Officers issued 10 traffic citations; made three criminal arrests; and issued 21 warnings.A roving patrol on Nov. 25 resulted in officers detaining 12 vehicles. One driver was tested and arrested for DUI. Officers issued 12 traffic citations and made one criminal arrest. There were no warnings issued. Two departments participated in the patrol.A roving patrol was also done on Nov. 26, conducted by three officers, representing three departments. Officers contacted 24 vehicles, with three drivers tested. There were no DUI arrests. Officers issued 16 traffic citations.Sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols will also be conducted through Mondayon routes 61, 183, 901, 209, 309, 443, 895, 125, 25, 924 and 54.Travelers are reminded to dial 911 if they suspect a drunken driver.To report underage drinking, call 888-UNDER21.The sobriety checkpoints and Roving DUI patrols are funded through the state Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
