Palmerton library plans events for December
The Palmerton Area Library will host activities in December:
The Annual Kids Christmas Party at the library will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday. The party is for kids in kindergarten through third grade, and is free. Parents should call the library to register their children, so there is enough supplies and snacks available.The party will feature Christmas stories, carols, games and crafts. Every child will get to pick out a book to take home to keep. The party is planned and sponsored by the library's Teen Group.On Dec. 16, the Lehigh Valley Charter School for the Arts Senior Theatre Company will present "Spot the Dot" in the gallery of the library. This play is an adaptation of "You Are Special" by Max Lucado and will be held at 10:30 a.m. This is the third year that the charter school has put on a special production at the library. This program is free and open to the public.A special rock painting class taught by Paula Zelienka will be held at 10:30 a.m. Dec. 17. Come to the library and paint a cool snowman. This class is open to all ages, but registration is required and a feewill be charged with the proceeds going to the library.Due to the large number of items in the library's Basement Book Sale, the library will have a December Bag Sale. Fill a plastic grocery bag with books and other items (movies, puzzles, games) from the basement sale for $2. This sale will take place from Dec. 1 through Jan. 1. Ask for a bag at the checkout desk before shopping.With the new year, the library will host the 11th annual art show and lunch from noon to 3 p.m. on Jan. 22 in the library's gallery. The lunch will include soups, sandwiches, salads, fruit, drinks and desserts and will be provided by the Friends of the Library. Ticketsmay be purchased at the door or in advance.The library is still looking for artists who wish to enter their work in the show. Each artist may submit up to three entries. Artists set their own price on each painting or may mark the work "not for sale." This club is free and open to all.• The Third Monday Book Club will meet on Dec. 19 at noon to discuss "Empire Falls" by Richard Russo.• Yoga classes are offered every Saturday at 9 a.m.• The Sew What Quilt Guild meets at 7 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month.• The Blue Mountain Fiber Guild also meets at 7 p.m., but on the first Tuesday of each month.• Family History meets at 6 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month.• Preschool Story Hour is offered every Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the kids' room.• The Teen Group meets after school on the first and third Thursdays of each month. Call the library and ask for Christine for more information about this group.Library hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
