Colts' Dakosty to step down

Marian’s Stan Dakosty will be stepping down as the school’s football coach.

A release was sent out Thursday morning that read a press conference was to be held at 1:30 this afternoon announcing his retirement.Dakosty just completed his 40th season as the Colts mentor. His team compiled a 6-6 record this year and reached the District 11 Class 1A championship game.The longtime coach guided Marian for 465 games, winning 310 of them.His teams earned 12 postseason championships, including a state title in 1990. They also posted at least 10 wins during 11 different seasons and had winning records in 32 of the 40 seasons. Only once did his teams suffer back-to-back losing campaigns.Dakosty is a former Associated Press Coach of the Year, and also was the head coach of the Pennsylvania Big 33 Team in 1992. He has been inducted into the Schuylkill County Coaches Hall of Fame and the Pennsylvania State Coaches Hall of Fame.Earlier this year, Dakosty estimated that 250-300 of his players have gone on to play college football. Many of his former players have also gone on to coaching careers.While he intends to step down from the coaching ranks, Dakosty is expected to remain at Marian as a history teacher and the school’s Athletic Director.A full story of the press conference and Dakosty’s retirement will appear in Friday’s Times News.
