The leadership team on the Palmerton Area School District board of directors will flip-flop positions for 2017.

During Tuesday night's board reorganization meeting, Chuck Myers was elected president for the upcoming year by a 5-2 vote, while Tammy Recker was unanimously tabbed vice-president.The two were in opposite roles throughout 2016.Board member Josh Smale nominated Myers, while Charles Gildner nominated Barry Scherer.Voting for Myers were Recker, Smale, Darlene Yeakel, Josann Harry and Myers himself. The two votes for Scherer came from himself and Gildner."I want to thank the board and I appreciate their support," Myers said. "I also want to thank Tammy for all of her work as president."Yeakel nominated Recker for vice-president. Scherer nominated Gildner, who declined the nomination.Board members Sue Debski and Sherry Haas were absent from the meeting.In other appointments, Yeakel was named district liason to the Pennsylvania School Board Association, while Smale was selected as an alternate to the Carbon Career and Technical Institute's joint operating committee.Both are one-year terms.
