Inmates made remarks about killing

A Carbon County inmate is facing charges for threatening to kill the victim in a previous crime earlier this year.

Nesquehoning police filed charges against Todd Bruce Costenbader, 53, formerly of Lehighton, after they were notified on Nov. 4 by prison staff that Costenbader made several remarks about killing a person.Costenbader was already incarcerated in connection with an incident in Mahoning Township that happened in May and faces a charge of simple assault. A plea court in front of Judge Joseph Matika is scheduled for 9 a.m., Dec. 12 on that charge.According to the affidavit filed by patrolman Richard Neikam, he was told by prison staff that Costenbader kept asking when he was going to get out of jail and then said that if he didn't get of out jail before Thanksgiving, he was going to "expletive kill her" referring to the victim in the Mahoning Township incident.Prison staff told Costenbader that he was going to be in a lot more trouble if he followed through with his treat and he replied he didn't care because he was going to kill the victim and then himself.Upon questioning, Costenbader admitted to Neikam that he made the threat on the victim's life the day before but said he was angry that he would be in jail for Thanksgiving and that he was only joking and did not mean any of it.Costenbader now faces a charge of terroristic threats.A preliminary hearing before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford has been scheduled for Dec. 14.
