Several injured in West Penn crash

Several people were injured late Saturday afternoon in a crash at the intersection of Route 443 and Clear View Crossing in West Penn Township.

The crash occurred just after 4 p.m. when a man was traveling east on Route 443 in a pickup and stopped abruptly to make a right turn onto Clear View Crossing. A car following was not able to stop and hit the back of the pickup.The force of the impact drove the pickup to the right over a set of guide rails and down a steep embankment to a stream below.The driver of the pickup was trapped in his truck, and was freed by members of the West Penn fire company and Tamaqua Rescue Squad.The driver was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance and Lehighton paramedics. At least one person in the car was transported to a medical facility.West Penn fire police maintained traffic control at the scene. West Penn Township police are investigating the incident.
