Palmerton man hurt in car-cycle crash

A Palmerton man was injured in a crash that involved a car and a motorcycle on Route 248 in Lower Towamensing Township at 1:20

p.m.Friday.State police at the Lehighton barracks said Barry L. Chunko, 23, was transported to the Palmerton Hospital by the Palmerton EMS after the crash. The severity of his injuries is unknown, police said.Police said he was operating a 2015 Honda XL650 westbound on Route 248 when a 2012 Hyundai Accent operated by Ryan J. Roberts, 20, also of Palmerton, negotiated a right-hand turn from Club Road onto the right-hand travel lane of Route 248. Police said the cyclist simultaneously negotiated a lane change and was traveling in the right-hand lane of Route 248, where it struck the Accent from behind.Police said the collision caused Chunko to become separated from the motorcycle, which slid to a final rest on the right-hand shoulder of the road. The car came to a controlled rest on the shoulder as well.Police said Roberts was uninjured. His vehicle sustained minor damages and was driven from the scene.The motorcycle sustained heavy damages and was recovered from the scene by a family member.Police said Chunko will be cited as a result of the crash.
