Firetruck delivers Santa to Summit Hill

Santa has been visiting in several local communities during the past week or so.

Sunday it was Summit Hill's turn.The jolly chap in his familiar red suit was transported to Ludlow Park on a firetruck provided by Diligence Hose Company.About 200 people attended the Christmas in the Park program sponsored by the Summit Hill Recreation Commission.Jodi McAndrew, president of the commission, said she was "very pleased with the turnout."She also was happy with the ideal weather.The visit included Santa turning on the lights of the borough's Christmas tree inside the park gazebo.The children's choir of St. Joseph's Church in Summit Hill, joined by several other children, sang Christmas songs before Santa's arrival. The choir was led by Kathy Crampsie.When Santa arrived, he read Clement Moore's famous holiday poem, "'Twas the Night Before Christmas."He then greeted all the children individually and presented them with a candy cane, a hand-made ornament and a small craft set.Commission members served cookies and hot chocolate, given free to anyone attending the festivities.
