Two injured in crash involving car owned by jailed suspect

West Penn township police are looking into how a couple involved in a crash on Route 895 this morning was operating a Subaru Outback station wagon owned by a woman in jail.

Kerri Blasko, 45, of Coaldale, is incarcerated in the Carbon County prison charged with the abduction and stabbing of a Tamaqua woman on Nov. 18. Police are also looking for two additional accomplices.

Summit Hill police charged Blasko with taking the victim to East Mountaintop road where after being kidnapped she was stabbed and robbed.

Two people were injured this morning in a crash along Lizard Creek Road (Route 895) in West Penn Township.

The crash occurred at 7:30 a.m. as a couple were traveling east. The driver told West Penn Chief of Police Brian Johnson he passed out at the wheel crossing the roadway entering the north berm where the unit impacted with a tree.

The driver and a female occupant were treated the scene by members of the Tamaqua ambulance and Lehighton paramedics before being transported to a trauma center.

Chief Johnson reports the male driver was operating the vehicle with a suspended driver's license out of New Jersey.

Chief Johnson states charges are pending on the incident with the report of a blood alcohol test.

West Penn fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
