Towamensing Township met on Thursday to receive an update from Save Carbon County and discuss new resolutions.

Save Carbon County member Paul Shinsec updated the supervisors on the PennEast pipeline.Last month, the group predicted that the final Environmental Impact Statement would be delayed. This has now happened. The report will be delayed for at least two months. This will allow newly affected landowners to comment. The pipeline route continues to change and grow.The Kidder Zoning Hearing Board has had six hearings to date on the proposed compressor station that will be at Route 940, Lot 1."We're definitely opposed to it because it's dangerous," Shinsec said. "There have been multiple incidents where these things have blown up, caught fire and it's predicted they'll emit close to 200 tons of pollutants every year."Save Carbon County is monitoring the hearings, as affected residents have not had a chance to voice their opinions on the building.Save Carbon County has joined many groups across the nation to support the Standing Rock Sioux who are protesting the oil pipeline from Dakota Access that will affect their water supply and run through sacred lands.Bruce Reiner, tax collector, reminded residents about paying their taxes on time. Payments must be postmarked no later than Dec. 31. Payments made after Dec. 14 must be made through guaranteed funds, such as a bank order, money order or cash.Tax bills not paid by Dec. 31 will be forwarded to the Carbon County Tax Claim Bureau.
