Luminarias will glow along the historic Main Street of Slatington for the upcoming annual tree lighting in Memorial Park.

Several shops will stay open later for the borough's Main Street Merchants' inaugural First Friday event.Partnering with the Greater Northern Lehigh Chamber of Commerce, the newly formed business committee has worked to create "an evening of socializing and celebrating the holiday season as a community with friends, family and fellow chamber members," said Members Relation Director Alice Wanamaker."Everyone is really excited."Charlotte Fay's Main Street Dinerwill stay open until 7 p.m., where Philadelphia based folk-blues vocalist Tom Cooney will perform with Earl Andrews. The duo will entertain the crowd with blues, a little R&B, and a few holiday tunes.The Slatington Library will host a Mrs. Claus' Story Time from 4-6 p.m. while a strolling minstrel roams the shelves bowing holiday music on violent.A pop-up farmers market hosted by Blue Mountain Farm will take place at the former This, That and More, located at 643 Main St. starting at 1 p.m. Liz Wagner of the farm will sell seasonal produce, locally made honey and hot tea leading up to the tree lighting.The annual tree unveiling will beheld at 6 p.m. as Santa Claus makes his way to the illuminated Memorial Park where he will greet children and light up the borough. Pictures with the red-suit icon will be accompanied by hot chocolate at St. Johns UCC Fellowship next to the park.Unwrapped toys will be collected for the benefit of a Lehigh Valley Child program hosted at the church social hall.In the event of inclement weather, the evening will be hosted in the Fellowship Hall of St. Johns.
