Pennsylvania town suspends police officer

DANVILLE, Pa. (AP) - A central Pennsylvania town's embattled police department has suspended one of its officers just one week after firing another.

Mahoning Township officials say Officer Charles Diettrick, the department's officer in charge, was suspended last week pending the outcome of an ongoing investigation.Details regarding Diettrick's suspension weren't provided. Township officials also declined to elaborate on the recent termination of Patrolman Jonathan Yaskiewicz.Township labor attorney Melissa Kelso says Mahoning officials are not permitted by law to release information regarding an investigation into alleged police misconduct by one of its employees.The township is still searching for a new police chief after former chief Chad Thomas was fired. Thomas pleaded guilty in May to "huffing" a can of compressed air while on duty.The department now has just four full-time officers.
